Nepal Economic Summit 2014 Declaration

Samriddhi, The Prosperity Foundation was the knowledge partner of the Nepal Economic Summit, 2014, which brought together almost one thousand people to be a part of a historical process which provided impetus to policy reform for promoting investment in Nepal. Samriddhi had been working with the government and key stakeholders in agriculture, energy, and tourism sectors since December 2013 to prepare discussion papers to present in the summit. The papers outlined key challenges and made recommendations for reform. The papers build on Samriddhi’s Nepal Economic Growth Agenda, launched in 2012.

A major win from the discourse was solidifying the understanding between the government and private sector to focus on key reforms, especially in Agriculture, Tourism and Energy. With the declaration “A Commitment to Economic Reform”, the government pledged to improve entry and exit procedures, improve its performance in the Doing Business indicators and eliminate unnecessary regulatory processes (starting with agriculture, tourism and energy sector). The summit was organized by the Government of Nepal and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The Summit has come up with the following declaration for economic reform in Nepal.
